Died: 26.1.17 aged 16 when SS 'Ava' was lost on the first day out of Liverpool on passage to Dakar and Rangoon with a cargo of coal and general supplies. The 'Ava' (5076 tons) was presumed sunk by torpedo (possibly by U45) with the loss of 92 lives, no survivors.
