Dornoch Heritage SCIO comprises over 200 members who care about the past, present and future of the Dornoch area. The principal aims are to preserve the character, history and traditions of Dornoch and to help fulfill our mission: 

'To preserve Dornoch’s heritage, and to make its history accessible and enjoyable for all'

People have lived in the Dornoch area for over 6000 years. From Bronze Age hut circles to the Dornoch Light Railway, our members have been involved in unearthing evidence of their activities and members are continually researching the events of the area and discovering more about its fascinating past.

New members are always welcome and as well as supporting the work of the Charity, additional benefits include:

• priority booking for tickets to the annual ‘Taste of Burns’ - our take on the traditional January supper

The role of Dornoch Heritage Society

Dornoch Heritage Society is a sub-committee of the charity. Its remit is to arrange talks and other social events for members and non-members, to raise funds to help projects and to support the work of Historylinks Museum. The Heritage Society is also responsible for maintaining our membership register and collecting their subscriptions.

Qualifications for membership

Membership is open to any individual aged 16 or over who is interested in furthering the aims and activities of the organisation, and who has paid a valid annual subscription. However, the constitution stipulates that at all times at least 75% of the membership must reside in the local community.
