Historylinks Schoolpacks

Historylinks Schoolpacks have been produced to support schools visiting the Historylinks Trail and Museum. The resource packs include a range of worksheets to help Primary & Secondary School pupils gain an understanding of the history of the Royal Burgh of Dornoch. They aim to fit in with the 5-14 National Guidelines for Environmental Studies.

The Historylinks Trail includes 16 sites of historic interest in and around Dornoch, eight of which are in the town centre and easily accessible to school parties. It is hoped that by visiting the town centre trail sites and completing the tasks on the worksheets, pupils will develop a knowledge and understanding of a number of historical developments that took place over the centuries in this small Highland town.

The schoolpacks contain a CD, worksheets and teacher's notes for both Primary and Secondary schools, as well as items common to both. The CD provides access to worksheets in both Microsoft Word and Adobe PDF format. Schools are free to print and copy these as required. The Word versions can be edited by teachers if required.

Historylinks Museum is open all year but with limited opening in winter months. School parties are welcomed.

Schools should phone before visiting. The maximum recommended party size at any one time is 15 although 10 is preferable. Large classes can often make arrangements to visit the Cathedral and/or walk some of the Trail at the same time in order to split up the group.
